Graphics Surf Evaluation

Graphics/Surf Project Evaluation

Overview:
My final outcome is a surf related design and logo for my t-shirt it has two yellow/orange surf boards crossing each other with red octopus tentacles coming out of the top corners of each one. It also has a blue background with surf related words such as 'wave' 'beach' ect.. and the logo I designed on the front board.
The idea for mu final design changed during the developmental stage towards the end because at the start I only had a basic blue background bit I got help to improve it by staff which was to have some something behind the boards which is when i came up with the idea of surf related words. after that i changed the opacity to make the words faded to not take the main focus from the boards. The things that were successful from this outcome where the colours i used in the design and also the fact that i made it very surf orientated, which was the task. Something that could have been improved is the detail on the tentacles and they also could have been a little neater around the edges. 

Critical and Contextual References and Influences:
Some of the artists i researched were: Lin Osbourne, Oscar Wilson, Si Scott. The most important influence was Lin Osbourne's work because it helped me understand good placement of pictures on a t-shirt and contrast in colours. An example below:

Materials and Techniques:
One of the techniques i learnt was to scan images i have drawn and put them onto the Mac which was one of the materials i used. I also learnt how to use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop better during this project. These were key materials because they helped to colour and edit the design. Lastly i learnt how to print my image onto a t-shirt. One of the health and safety considerations was that the heat press was very hot so you had to keep a distance while the image was being printed onto the t-shirt.

Final Animation



Animation Project Evaluation

Overview:
The final outcome of my animation displays the android logo (robot) which is in a Samsung phone, breaks out then climbs out and jumps out into an iPad.
During the development process of the animation the idea changed because originally I had planned on doing it all on Adobe Flash but in the end I chose to film it all on iMotion frame by frame.
Advice from peers and staff helped me because they helped with camera angles and ideas for the creation of props.
The creation of the android logo and the total outcome was successful. Something that could be improved in the final outcome would be to make the animation a little bit longer by adding more devices.

Critical and contextual References and Influences:
The artist I researched was Jamie Beck, she was an inspiration because she was one of the first people to create animated gifs and her specific movements in her gifs inspired me with my prop movements these were the most important. Another one was from YouTube called “jojogirl34” where you can see it looks like she used iMotion, this was a better inspiration for my animation because of the similarities.

Purpose:
The purpose of this project was to create an animation to advertise a campaign. I fulfilled this purpose in my outcome because I was advertising the fact that android can do anything (even going into other devices).    

Materials and Techniques:
The materials I used for my final animation were: iPad, Plasticine, Wire, Phone and a white sheet. The main skill I developed was using iMotion and also editing the animation on the Mac’s. I specifically chose to use wire because I was able to insert it into the back of one of my props to hold it while I film it jumping. I experienced a problem with the Plasticine because the first one I used would not stick well with the wire which was needed for the final part of the animation. jojogirl32’s animation had similar materials and techniques because she used a stop motion application and had to slowly move each prop in het animation.

Claymation 

Here you can see the Claymation that I made. In the development process I first of all had to create a set for the video. For this I had to cut a line of card and then print out an image of the sea because my story was a guy in in a boat so I had to get the sea. Once I had cut the image of the sea to the right size and stuck it onto the card I then had to begin building the character model which was a man in a boat. When I finished this I began filming on an iPad taking a picture of each movement of the boat. Lastly I had to edit the images in iMovie to make it a video and added a fitting song to the video.

Time Lapse


This is the Time Lapse that we created using an application on an iPad called iMotion which allows you to take pictures with the device every second of less depending on how you want your settings to be. During this video I was creating a quick image of different coloured pasta coming out of a plastic bag. Before we started filming the time lapse we had already cut out the pasta shapes so that the video is not so long. As I was drawing and sticking, the iMotion application was taking pictures of what I was doing around every second, so it ends up taking around about a couple hundred pictures for the whole video. As you can see above the video seems to have been sped up but that is only because it is showing all the pictures in a quick slideshow.

3 further inspiring animations


This is one of the stop motion animations that have inspired me because of the amount of detail that must have been put into making the final production. They must have had to move every little bead for the movement of every single arm swing and every step of walking. This inspires me to take more detail to the movement of my animation during the developmental process.



This is another inspiring stop motion animation where a lot of time has been spent on it, in fact 11 months to be exact as you will see towards the end. The amount of post-it notes also impresses me because they have used thousands of them to create this. It inspires me to think about how many props I will use and how long I should spend when doing my animation.



The last of the stop motion animations that inspired me is this one "Game Over by PES". This is because of the versatility of the props they use and the amount of props the use too. This will make me think about how many things are going to be in my final animation.

Stop-Motion Comparison


In my stop-motion comparison I will be comparing two videos which both consist of a food concept, one has Skittles and the other has a cup of coffe.
The artist of the first video 'Stopmotion Skittle Commercial' was 'jojogirl34' 
The artist has created an animation full of different things going on in some kind of adventure using skittles. I think she has used the techniques effectively because she has managed to advertise the product skittles and also make something that is fun and creative.
I like the artists work because of the media she has used (skittles) which are full of bright colours, this makes the video more exciting to watch and keeps you focused as well.  




The artist of this second video 'Coffee Time' is 'Wan Tzu'. The artist has made an animation which is a coffee machine being created from scratch out of some kind of card, then the coffee actually being made with string and a heart shaped bit of cream on top out of string too. The media that was used in this video was card and string. I like the artists work because it seems simple yet complexe. It is simple because its card being folded and unfolded but then complexe because of how many different layers that the machine has just to get it working.
